Attentive readers would do well to remember Dumbledore's warning about making the choice between "what is right and what is easy," and know that Rowling applies the same difficult principle to the conclusion of her series. While fans will find the answers to hotly speculated questions about Dumbledore, Snape, and you-know-who, it is a testament to Rowling's skill as a storyteller that even the most astute and careful reader will be taken by surprise.
A spectacular finish to a phenomenal series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a bittersweet read for fans. The journey is hard, filled with events both tragic and triumphant, the battlefield littered with the bodies of the dearest and despised, but the final chapter is as brilliant and blinding as a phoenix's flame, and fans and skeptics alike will emerge from the confines of the story with full but heavy hearts, giddy and grateful for the experience. --Daphne Durham

Customer Reviews:________________________________________________________________
This was the best of the entire series. It definitely finishes with a bang. I was both right and wrong about what the grand finale would be but was not disappointed over anything as it was actually written. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I appreciated the ending; it tied up loose ends nicely and left one with a feeling that life goes on after all.
As usual Rowling has again dealt with the issues of growing up: that life often isn't fair, that good people die dispite our best efforts, that some individuals that we thought would never change actually do, that those we had considered hateful and bad were actually our champions after all, and that often times the young truely are the hope of the world and should be encouraged and educated to meet their challenges. For Harry Potter it was dealing with the personification of evil in the form of Voldemort; for real children it will be the changes of climate upheaval, friction with other countries, energy crises, and so on. These are hardly less formidable than Voldemort.
The vocabulary and sentance structure here are very sophisticated and directed to older children or young adults. So are the social issues: finding a mate, trying to create a better world, self sacrifice and personal purpose.
If children don't get hooked on reading with this series, there's something distinctly wrong! I look forward to reading the book in French, too.
